We've Known about Fattening Carbohydrates for a Long Time

William Banting told us that carbohydrates were fattening, in 1886, it was in medical text books in the 1960's, it was common knowledge in women's magazines. Yet the Dietary Guidelines of the 1980's tell us that fat makes us fat.

Childhood obesity is a problem, and the New Zealand Plan to reverse childhood obesity, aims to increase the amount of exercise children do, and to reduce the fat in their diet. The issue of excess sugar and carbohydrate is ignored.
