One way to do that would be for teams of professionals to work with individuals designing personal diets.

Variation of Carbohydrate Intolerance
Your body adapts to how you choose to behave and to what you eat, and how you eat.
When you are young, you body is carbohydrate tolerant, you can eat sugar and other carbohydrates with abandon and your body will cope with the excesses you subject it too.
As the damage you are doing to yourself accumulates, the body responds by becoming carbohydrate intolerant, it's trying to send you a "STOP" signal.
If you have the early signs of metabolic syndrome, "STOP." The earlier you respond to that signal the better, because that keeps your dietary options open.
Once you have developed type 2 diabetes, your dietary options are very much restricted.
All the markers of metabolic syndrome improve if you eat a low-carbohydrate high-fat diet.
Excess Dietary Carbohydrate
When you eat carbohydrate based foods, or excess amounts of protein, your body will break this down into sugars – eventually all sugars and carbohydrates become glucose in the blood.
Normally, glucose is needed in the creation of ATP (an energy molecule), which is a fuel that is needed for the daily activities and maintenance inside our bodies.
The modern diet is supermarket based. Food is available every day, there is never a famine. The cheapest food, and the most bulky looking food, is carbohydrate. Hence, we tend to eat every day, and carbohydrates are a substantial part of our diet. Those carbohydrates are quickly converted to glucose, glucose for energy, and glucose for storage, in case there's a famine.
There are two main things that happen to glucose if your body doesn't need it:
Glycogenesis. Excess glucose will be converted to glycogen, and stored in your liver and muscles. Estimates show that only about half of your daily energy can be stored as glycogen. (<2000 kcal)
Lipogenesis. If there's already enough glycogen in your muscles and liver, any extra glucose will be converted into fats and stored using the process called lipogenesis.
When your body has no access to food, like when you are sleeping or when you are on a ketogenic diet, the body will burn fat and your liver, in a process called beta-oxidation, will create molecules called ketones. We can thank our body's ability to switch metabolic pathways for that.
Calories In v Calories Out
This has been the fundamental pillar of dietary weight loss for 100 years.
Because different foods are metabolised in different ways, it's not a valid concept.
In particular excess glucose readily converts to fatty acids that become adipose tissue (body fat).
The reverse process the conversion of fatty acids to glucose is difficult. When insulin is low, adipose fats are converted glycerol and fatty acids. Some fatty acids can be used directly for energy. Glycerol can be converted into glucose. But in the liver fatty acids can be converted into ketones molecules an alternative form of energy.
If you've ever used a calculator to determine your caloric needs, you will see that your body uses up quite a lot of calories. Our bodies use up most of the nutrients we intake just to maintain itself on a daily basis. Without counting calories your body tells you how much you need to eat. If you added one kilogram of weight to your body each year, a fairly common situation, that's a single mouthful a day excess consumption.
However, the principle of balancing calories is valuable if you are concerned about weight control on your current diet, whatever that might be. Because of genetics, and because homeostasis is different for each of us, you need to understand how you respond to different food types, and to exercise.
Remember your hormones control how often you feel hungry and what foods you crave for. Your hormones control the appestat, and they block fat burning if there is excess insulin in your system.
Your personal method of controlling those hormones is in choosing what to eat, and in choosing when to eat.
Insulin and Getting Fat
Eating carbohydrate, forces the body to neutralise the blood sugars that creates. So the liver produces the master hormone insulin.
Once insulin is activated, several things happen: Insulin transports glucose into body cells. The storage of glycogen inside cells is activated. The ability to turn fat into energy is turned off. The ability to turn excess glucose into fat is turned on. The leptin signal to the appestat, which signals when fat storage has begun, is ignored until insulin levels drop again.
Many of us activate that response to carbohydrate at least six times a day,or even often more. Insulin is constantly being reactivated, fat storage is activated, and fat burning is prevented.
There are less that two teaspoons of glucose in your blood. Keeping that level constant is an important metabolic process. Eating a single muffin and a sugared coffee, suddenly adds ten to fifteen times more glucose than your system should have. That creates an emergency, and insulin production is your bodies attempt to correct the problem.
