There are no meaningful health advantages, in LFHC diet for older women.
Those with existing heart disease did worse.
Those with existing diabetes did worse.
There was weight loss: average weight loss only 1lb (less than half a kg.) over 8 yrs.
Because of the good control, they know the women reduced total calories eaten by 350kcal a day. On the basis of 9000kcal a kg, they should have lost 14kg a year. It didn't happen. Calories in v calories out is a nonsense. Weight essentially remained stable.
No Nobel Prize for the researchers.
The National Institute of Health, the main source of funding, refuses to accept the WHI result
The WHI Dietary Study was closed in 1998, because of poor outcomes.
Researchers at the time were sure they had the best possible data records.
They were confused; "We know what a healthy diet is."
They tried to re-examine their work for almost eight years, looking for a more favourable outcome.
Eventually they had to admit that their expectations were wrong.
Yet that remains the basis of Healthy Diet Guidelines around the English speaking world. We choose NOT to follow the science.
