Food Politics and Bias

There has always been perjudice and bias in every society about what is and what is not good food to eat. Sometimes that bias involved avoiding foods, and sometimes in doing some ritual or prayer in conjunction with using that food. Christians, Jews, Budhuits and Muslims have religious food rituals. Some restriction on killing animals for food is one common idea.

In modern times, commercial interests have activly tried to influence our foo dchoices, sometimes by providing new products and advertising, sometimes by paying for biased research intended to support such efforts.

Examples include research to blame fats for obesity rather than sugar.
And the effort to blame saturated animal fats for cardio-vascular disease.

"Nutrition Science: How did we get here?"

From the earliest days of the Dietitians training, the religious idea that Christians should be vegetarians, was a key principle. (23 minutes)

Belinda Fettke is a former Registered Nurse, photographer and the proud co-founder of 'Nutrition For Life' in Launceston which provides medically based nutritional care around Tasmania and Australia.

Belinda is also a staunch supporter of the health benefits of Low Carb, Healthy Fat eating and in recent years has taken a more central role in advocating LCHF following the investigation of her husband, Dr. Gary Fettke, by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The investigation focused on Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice.

This investigation (which lasted for more than two years) resulted in Gary being issued a ‘caution’ and being advised; ”In particular, that he does not provide specific advice or recommendations on the subject of nutrition and how it relates to the management of diabetes or the treatment and/or prevention of cancer.” Gary was later cleared of all charges and issued a formal apology from AHPRA.

LIES & MONEY in DIETARY Science - Decoding POLITICS & DOGMA

Gary Fettke (36 minutes)

Published by: Low Carb Health Doctor - 27 May 2024

In this episode, I have a very wonderful and enlightening conversation with Dr. Gary Fettke, an orthopedic surgeon from Tasmania, Australia and one of the leading pioneers of the Low Carb Healthy Fats (LCHF) nutrition advocacy worldwide. We talk about why the LOW CARB DIET is backed by genuine and true science, how POLITICS, MONEY and RELIGION influence our current dietary guidelines, and why generational education gap has made it quite difficult to relay the true science of what a PROPER HUMAN DIET should be to the younger generation of physicians.

Gary has a longstanding interest in preventive medicine and its overall health outcomes, especially in relation to his work as an orthopedic surgeon performing joint replacement surgery among overweight and obese arthritic patients as well as limb amputations for those with non-healing wounds and other diabetic foot complications. Gary was reported by dietitians working in cahoots with the sugar and food processing industry to the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and a closed-door investigation ensued about Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice for his diabetic patients. Gary was issued a ‘caution’ but was eventually exonerated and cleared of all charges.
