Behind the Dietary Guidelines

Dr Paul Mason was invited to present on Nutrition at the prestigious Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress.

There was an effort by some Australian health professionals to cancel this presentation. Later it transpired that Professor Linda Tapsell, who was a key player in the development of Australia’s current dietary guidelines spoke for those interests. In her presentation, Professor Tapsell made the point that the Dietitians’ Association Australian, did not, as claimed by Dr Mason, develop the Dietary guidelines. This rebuttal was correct. Rather, the DAA (now Dietitians Australia) was commissioned by the NHMRC to conduct systematic literature reviews to assist in the development of the dietary guidelines.

Dr Mason's talk is intended for medical people, surgeons in particular. It's scientific, but it's also understandable. In particular he talks about three scientific studies done in the 1990's that were never correctly reported. The reason seems to be, that the studies produced results that were contrary to the well established "scientific knowledge" of the time. The researches didn't want to look silly, that might destroy their careers. Their sponsors or research superiors also had reputations to protect. Even today it still goes on, as illustrated above.

Dr Dom D'Agostino EXPOSES the Keto diet and Cancer

Prof. Dominic D'Agostino is a bioscience researcher who is very highly regarded. He works at the coal face of ketogenic research, beginning 10 or more years ago trying to stop navy divers from having a seizure at depth, but later with many of his now famous students they are now working in many fields including cancer research. Matthews introduction is good.

This talk is very technical. If you are new, skip the detail. The important thing is that the science is sound.
