Dr. Naiman first learned about low-carb diets when he was an intern and heard about it from a patient who reversed the ill effect of his Type 2 diabetes with the Atkins diet. At medical school, Dr. Naiman ignored the discouragement from his instructors and started researching the macronutrients and the impact they have on health. What he discovered about low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diets astounded him and he's been recommending them to his patients ever since

Simple measurements can be very powerful. For instance your waist circumference divided by your height. That ratio relates well to insulin resistance. It's much more reliable than BMI or weight, as a guide to your progress.
Fasting glucose is another poor marker. Fasting insulin is much better. A normal fasting insulin is about 8, but 4 or 5 would be ideal. Above ten is undesirable, time to do something.
Without the fasting insulin test, the fasting triglyceride over HDL-C ratio is revealing.

Lots of people have thyroid problems. The test for thyroid stimulating hormone is usually done. Normal 1 to 1.5 If zero or above 5 something is wrong. Thyroid stimulating hormone is produced in the brain and it signals the thyroid to be more active.
Auto-immune thyroid problems seem to be very common in women. If you have that problem, your triglycerides will be high and you'll gain weight. People eating a very-low-carbohydrate diet need thyroid stimulating hormone much less.

Most people are overweight and under nourished. If you feed your body properly you won't feel hungry, and your body will have all the essential fatty acids it needs.
Essential fatty acids and vitamins and minerals are required, in your diet, if your body is to function well. People eat far too many calories of poor nutriment value. Empty calories like, sugar, sugar substitutes and alcohol. Starchy carbohydrates are only a little better.

For most people exercise is a nightmare. You need to have a consistent planned programme that you can do at home, preferably in the lounge room. Or maybe in the garage. You don't need to change your clothes. You don't need to take a shower afterwards. It can take less than 10 minutes.
The main objective of exercise is to build muscle mass. The best technique for that is to do slow movements with sufficient weight, to produce failure between 60 seconds and 90 seconds.
Five exercises - to plan for.
Horizontal Push: Moving the car.
Horizontal Pull: Rowing machine
Vertical Push: Bench press
Vertical Pull: Chin-ups
Squat to Standing: with suitable weight.
Insulin resistance is the elephant in the room. Most doctors never test for it. The crap we eat is killing us. Insulin resistance is the driving force behind type II diabetes,, Alzheimer's and many cancers.
