Belinda Fettke
Why is Gary Fettke being targeted?
In 2014 I began researching the Vested Interests and Religious Ideology shaping our 'plant-biased' dietary and health guidelines after my husband, Dr Gary Fettke, was reported to the AHPRA Medical Board of Tasmania.
His offense, according to the DAA, was recommending that patients with weight related joint issues, inflammation and Type 2 diabetes, reduce sugar and processed carbohydrates from their diet to improve their health outcomes.
We had no idea Gary's public health advocacy, based on biochemistry and physiology, would lead to a 2 1/2 year star-chamber investigation by the medical board, nor that it would take until September 2018 to have his name officially cleared of all trumped up charges. Gary did receive an official written apology from AHPRA!
The ADD proclaim themselves to be the "peak nutrition Australia." Part of their funding comes from corporate partnerships with various companies. Freedom Foods, Sanitarium, Nestlé, and Kellogg's for instance. One of the commitments is to support the importance of "Breakie" and to protect the message that cereals, grains and sugars should be part of everyone's diet.
From the DAA point of view they were defending the case of their corporate partners.
Gary and I were surprised that the DAA offered the AHPRA hearing Professor Mark Wahlqvist as an expert witness against us. Who was this person? He was certainly highly qualified, both in medicine and nutrition, but there was a back story. Prof. Wahlqvist is associated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He's been employed by Coca-Cola to defend their "Exercise is Medicine" promotion. Prof. Wahlqvist is the Patron of the Lifestyle Medicine Group. He speaks for them.
The connection deepens. The Christian Society of Lifestyle Medicine was formed at Loma Linda University in 2003. This group supported the teaching of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, that the Bible tells us how to eat in Genesis 1.29 and 2.15. The Churches commitment was for followers to eat a vegetarian diet. Walter Willett from Harvard University was appointed to the Board in 2004. The Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing Company is 100% owned by the Church. They own a health promotion called CHIP, or "Complete Health Improvement Program." That program strongly recommends a vegan diet. No alcohol, meat or dairy food.
After discovering the pro cereal/grain/soy messaging, and the demonization of animal protein and fats, were tied to both industry and Seventh Day Adventist Church ideology, I delved into the pages of history to discover "why?"
I founded www.supportgary.com in August, 2017 as a way of sharing my research and was first invited to speak at a Low Carb Downunder event later that year.
