"Remembering Dr. Sarah Hallberg"

A Tribute from Diet Doctor

Dr Bret Scher (5 minutes)

The world lost a hero with the untimely passing of Dr. Sarah Hallberg due to metastatic lung cancer. We can't begin to do justice to all that Sarah meant to us as individuals, as patients, and as colleagues. She will be forever missed, but her mission for patient advocacy will live on in all of us. She has touched and inspired so many lives and we owe it to her, and to ourselves, to continue her mission. We grieve for her loss and for her friends and family. Be at peace, Sarah.

We recently announced that Obesity Medicine Specialist and Virta Health Medical Director, Dr. Sarah Hallberg, is the 3rd annual recipient of our David Shevock Pioneer Award. We give this award to a pioneer who’s made a significant contribution in the research and application of metabolic health and therapies. Through her work, research, and innovation alongside Virta Health, Dr. Hallberg has been able to change the lives of thousands of patients… empowering them to regain control of their health and reverse type-2 diabetes entirely through food. We believe Dr. Hallberg has changed the world and diabetes care as we know it. Metabolic Health Initiative Co-Founder, Victoria Field, recently had the chance to interview Dr. Hallberg about the award, her incredible career, and her vision for the future of metabolic therapies.

Dr. Sarah Hallberg on Carb Restriction as a Sustainable Diabetes Treatment

Dr Sarah Hallberg (61 minutes)

Published by: By CrossFit - June 5, 2019

Dr. Sarah Hallberg made several career pivots—all fueled by her anger at unscientific and harmful practices perpetuated by the medical community—before becoming Medical Director at Virta Health. In this talk, delivered on Dec. 15, 2018, at a CrossFit Health event at CrossFit Headquarters, Hallberg speaks about some of those unscientific and harmful practices, specifically those pertaining to the management of obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). She outlines the physiological problems inherent in treating T2D with insulin, the benefits of treating the disease with a carb-restrictive diet, and the data from a recent Virta Health study that demonstrates the positive effects of carb restriction.
