After completing the university, I worked five years in emergency care. Intensive therapeutic treatment is a great filter of your medical education. You have to get to the heart of the issue quickly, to know what is important.

My university studies began at St. Petersburg's Kirov Academy. Our theoretical and practical training far exceeded the standards of the average medical universities. During the four years at Kirov Academy, I studied aeronautical medicine. I did two assistant professorships at the Department of Biochemistry and Virology. I completed the last 3 years of my medical studies at the University of Szeged.

During my studies in Szeged, I worked at the Szeged ambulance station, from the ambulance paramedic to the ambulance doctor. This was a decisive role in my medical education, since knowledge of emergency states, is one of the most important characteristics for a good doctor.

The Paleomedicina Institute, Hungry

We are managing patients with chronic internal diseases using a dietary intervention method. These diseases include all types of diabetes, autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis. But it also includes atherosclerosis.

We are working with specialists who are highly experienced in epilepsy and cancer as well. We provide complex rehabilitation from diagnostics to complete recovery.

Dr. Csaba Tóth

For five years I worked in the pharmaceutical industry. I hoped to increase my professional knowledge. I did not, but I saw first hand, medical corruption, inhibition of medicines and insecurity. That experience changed my idea of the nature of the pharmaceuticals in a profound way.

After that, I worked for several years as a general practitioner in the Hungarian Health System. The work I was expected to do was routine, mechanical and inefficient. I recognised the enormous problem that the chaotic conditions in health care create. I was always looking for new innovative possibilities. Of course, this did not make me popular within the practice. That came to a crisis point when I became committed to the Paleolithic diet.

Healing with Paleo-Ketogenic Diet

Meanwhile, I developed health problems of my own, in particular, type II diabetes and Crohn's disease. I already had the idea of treating my diabetes with a very low carbohydrate diet. That worked well, but my Crohn's disease was still severe.

The breakpoint was the Paleolithic diet. Traveling further down the road I was already on, and following the idea that an evolutionary paleo-diet might be helpful, I stumbled into eating as a carnivore. My Crohn's disease resolved itself. I was healthy again.

In 2010 I started using the Paleolithic diet in healing others. First, I offered this treatment to my close acquaintances. The results of that were positive. It was immediately apparent that the diet works; and with more experience we could be built on this effectiveness. I thought this was a great opportunity that I should develop.

The first patients wanted to lose weight, were obese, had diabetes, or had a reflux disease. Most of them did not know the about Ketogenic diets or the Paleolithic diet.

At that time I did not even think about how useful the method would be to other practicing physicians.

The Paleomedicina Institute

The Paleo-ketogenic diet I am developing is a peculiar Hungarian method for Paleolithic nutrition, used specifically for autoimmune, cancer and epileptic patients. My desire to do this new work and being a general practitioner in Hungry, were incompatible. I needed to go into private practice.

In January 2013, with Dr. Zsófia Clemens, we started the Paleomedicina Institute.

Our five years of experience, with many patients, gives some traditional doctors the confidence to send us selected patients. This means that slowly Paleomedicina practices are becoming accepted by traditional doctors.

In our work, we keep detailed medical records, which provide a broad insight into almost every branch of medicine.

Over the past year, most of my patients suffer from severe autoimmune or cancerous problems. I treat many type 1 diabetic patients as well. Few doctors can say that they have equal experience in the healing of adults and children. Many of my patients are children, and the work I'm doing with them has special value.

Therapeutic experience and success with thousands of patients is a professional success. But we don't achieve this alone, a lot depends on the patients. That should not be forgotten.

Our patients are satisfied. At the same time, the healing they are doing is adding to medical knowledge.

"Is the Paleolithic ketogenic diet a ground breaking diabetes treatment?"

The Paleo-Ketogenic Diet

"We recommended that people eat twice a day as the general need for food decreases," said Tóth. "Our bodies produce energy from the fat, and during this process water is produced. The same goes for water intake – you need less water with the Paleo-Ketogenic diet than with a high-carb diet. Eating offal, such as bone marrow, liver and kidney, is essential to maintain healthy vitamin levels."

"It's important to consider how much protein we eat. It's not necessary for the human body to consume a lot of meat protein; what's important is the fat. We get our energy from fat. Without fat intake, this process can't work to the fullest."

Tóth maintains that once the diet is fully adhered to, the benefits are extensive. “If a child is suffering with advanced Crohn’s disease, for example, they won't feel that the diet is restrictive when they know that they are getting better.

Crohn's Disease

Crohn’s disease is regarded as having no curative treatment.

Case Report: Here we report a severe case of Crohn’s disease where we successfully applied the Paleolithic ketogenic diet.

Dietary therapy resulted in resolution of symptoms, normalized laboratory parameters as well as gradual normalization of bowel inflammation as evidenced by imaging data and normalization of intestinal permeability as shown by the polyethylene glycol (PEG 400) challenge test. The patient was able to discontinue medication within two weeks. Currently, he has been on the diet for 15 months and is free of symptoms as well as side effects. Conclusion: We conclude that the Paleolithic ketogenic diet was feasible, effective and safe in the present case.

Type I Diabetes Treatment

The theory I am developing, is that a Paleo-Ketogenic diet can stop the autoimmune process in new-onset type 1 diabetes, which means that in children at least, the natural production of insulin can be preserved.

To date the evidence suggests that the theory holds, and that finding might have life-changing implications for people with diabetes.

Tóth’s research published in 2016, showed how a nine-year-old boy with new-onset type 1 diabetes came off insulin injections for 19 months upon adopting a Paleo-Ketogenic diet. This then extended to 24 months. Tóth insisted that the Paleo-Ketogenic diet stopped the boy's insulin cells from decaying. So far so good.

"For people with new-onset type 1 diabetes, there might be only one chance to retain or restore insulin production. Thus it is important to intervene with the Paleo-Ketogenic diet as early as possible. There will be no second chance once the autoimmune process has destroyed the beta cells,” said Tóth.

Response From the Hungarian Health System

Paleomedicina Institute research has been discredited by the clinical community. Tóth describes his peers as "skeptical" and "very distant."

"The main reason for this [distance] is that stating that a diabetic patient can have a long life without insulin and that diabetes could be reversed. These ideas go against today's medical opinion," he said.

"But mostly doctors don't even know about this opportunity. If a patient with type 1 diabetes wants to use the Paleolithic ketogenic diet and seeks help from a diabetologist he will be refused. The diabetologist doesn't know how to do this, and has no expectation that the diet could work.

"The other important factor for this skepticism is the philosophy behind it: if we can't cure something with expensive research and clinical treatments; a cure with a simple diet seems improbable."

Tóth is optimistic. He predicts that clinical consensus regarding the diet will change, especially as supplementary results emerge and Paleomedicina type I diabetes patients continue to show health improvements.

The Paleo-Ketogenic diet will eventually be adopted within the clinical community. The science is there, in the long run the facts will prove themselves.
