High Hopes

This was to be the Rolls Royce study of women's health. Started 1991. Cost over $700 Million.

They expected to be successful, and they fully anticipated winning a Nobel Prize.

The project was well conceived, designed and executed.

They did get a strong result.

Results are in sharp contrast with long held dietary advice and expert opinion.

The Diet – Heart Hypotheses, that dietary fat caused heart disease is overturned.

The Diet-Cholesterol-Heart Hypothesis, that cholesterol marked heart disease risk isn't valid either.

People on a low fat high carbohydrate diet, don't lose weight.

Finally they had to admit: that the recommended low-fat, high carbohydrate diet, recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, has no health benefits for post menopausal women.
