Prof Tim Noakes in Court

Noakes is facing a charge of unprofessional conduct for giving unconventional advice to a breastfeeding mother on a social network (Twitter). That was for a single tweet in February 2014 saying good first foods for infant weaning are low-carb, high-fat (LCHF).

Johannesburg dietitian Claire Julsing Strydom, president of the Association for Dietetics in SA (ADSA) at the time, reported him to the Health Professionals Council of South Africa.

The HPCSA thought they had an easy open and shut case. They arrived in court woefully unprepared for the challenge that Prof. Noakes mounted. Noakes demanded the right to give evidence and to call witnesses.

This case continued over many months. There were ten counts; Prof. Noakes was found "Not Guilty" on all ten.
