Dr. Tim Noakes, researcher in sports medicine, marathon runner, now with Type 2 Diabetes, himself (Perhaps a family problem).
Leading advocate for LCHF “ketogenic” diets, since 2012.
He recommended weaning babies onto ketogenic foods, essentially no sugar and no bread or cereals. Wean the child onto chicken livers, brains, and broth made with real bone marrow.
He was charged with unprofessional conduct by the Association for Dietetics in South Africa. (2014)
The Health Professions Council of South Africa, took up the case, strongly supported by the University of Stellenbosch, and the Association for Dietetics in South Africa.
After a long delay, the case went before the court in South Africa in February, 2017. In April Prof. Tim Noakes was found "Not Guilty" on all ten of the specific charges made against him.
As I originally wrote this case is still not decided.
(Update: Noakes was found not guilty on 21 April, 2017. The Health Professions Council of South Africa, intends to appeal.)
The Health Professions Council of South Africa, didn't expect a strong defence from Dr Noakes. They treated it as a minor disciplinary matter, that they fully expected to control.
Dr Noakes, insisted that he was correct. That he was not guilty of unprofessional conduct. He did not give professional advice.
That what he did say was scientifically valid.
That the diet that dietitians are currently recommending, is no longer an evidence based diet.
